Abraham Menes

1897–1969

Bundist and social historian Abraham Menes was born in Hrodna (now in Belarus). He was among the original members of YIVO and contributed to the Yiddish Encyclopedia while living in Paris in the 1930s. Menes immigrated to the United States in 1940 and began working for the Jewish Daily Forward in 1947. In his historical research, Menes often attempted to relate Jewish biblical history and socialist beliefs.
