Isaac Rivkind

1895–1968

Born in Łódź, Isaac Rivkind grew up amid affluence and learning, a background he parlayed into a long career as a journalist, researcher, and—for thirty-six years—librarian at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Rivkind was a passionate and lifelong Zionist as well as a scholar. He belonged to the Hebrew PEN Club of New York, and his academic interests roamed widely, from bar mitzvah celebrations to Yiddish typography to the poet Bialik to the history of Jews and gambling.
