Chaim Sacks

Born into a rabbinic family in Kovno (now Kaunas, Lithuania), Chaim Sacks (born Kusselewitz) received a traditional education, studying in the most prestigious yeshivas in the region. Eventually encountering secular literature, Sacks left Orthodoxy before World War I, moving to Vilna and becoming involved in Zionist circles there. In 1924, he moved to Palestine, resettling in South Africa four years later. He remained active in Zionist groups in South Africa, and later in his life began writing, mostly contributing short stories to local Yiddish publications. He published one book in his lifetime. Sacks died in Johannesburg.
