Paul Sebag

1919–2004

Paul Sebag was a historian and sociologist, born and raised in a middle-class family in Tunis. Trained in law and philosophy in Paris, Sebag returned home to join the antifascist resistance as a member of the Tunisian Communist Party, to which he remained loyal through his imprisonment and liberation. He was later employed at the University of Tunis, where the twin foundations of his academic career were urban sociology and the history of Tunisian Jewry.
