Leon Golub

1922–2004

American painter Leon Golub is known for his large-scale, expressionistic, figurative artworks that draw on classical themes and imagery to address contemporary issues. An outspoken social activist, Golub was politically engaged throughout his career. His work has received critical acclaim and continues to be exhibited at numerous major American and international institutions. In 1951, Golub married fellow artist Nancy Spero.
