Jakov Lind

1927–2007

Jakov Lind (born Heinz Jakov Landwirth) was a writer of short stories, novels, and autobiographical works, in German and English, with a special emphasis on the Holocaust. His writing is distinguished by the use of allegory and farce. Born in Vienna, he fled Austria during the Nazi era on a Kindertransport to Holland. There, and in Germany, he survived World War II using a false Dutch identity. Following the war, he immigrated illegally to Palestine, where he met fellow writer Edgar Hilsenrath. Lind later returned to Vienna before finally settling in London in 1954.
