Fishel Schneersohn

1888–1958

Fishel Schneersohn, a psychologist and author born in Kamenetz-Podolski, present-day Ukraine, was a member of the famed Schneersohn rabbinic family. As a teenager, he was ordained as a rabbi, after which he studied at the gymnasium in Gomel, now Belarus. He received his academic training in Berlin and St. Petersburg, and apprenticed under a leading Russian psychiatrist. Schneersohn crisscrossed the globe before finally settling in Tel Aviv. In all these places, he established mental health practices serving especially, though not exclusively, children, and he wrote various psychological and religiously oriented works.
