Creator Bio

Budd Schulberg

1914–2009

Screenwriter, sportswriter, and novelist Budd (Seymour Wilson) Schulberg was born in New York, the son of Hollywood mogul B. P. Schulberg. Schulberg attended Dartmouth College and during World War II was assigned to the Office of Strategic Services, where he documented the course of the war with John Ford in Europe. After visiting concentration camps, Schulberg later submitted evidence against war criminals for the Nuremberg Trials. He is best known for his novel What Makes Sammy Run? and his screenplay for On the Waterfront. He also wrote articles for Sports Illustrated.
