Nathan Rapoport
Born in Warsaw, sculptor Nathan Rapoport lived in the Soviet Union for most of World War II and in Paris and Israel following the war. In 1959, he moved to the United States. Rapoport is best known for his 1948 memorial to the Warsaw ghetto uprising, installed at the site, with a replica at Yad Vashem. Over the course of his career, the artist was commissioned to produce a number of Holocaust memorials in both the United States and Israel. Rapoport received the Herbert Adams medal from the National Sculpture Society in 1987 in recognition of his outstanding achievements in American sculpture.
