Aryeh Judah Leib of Trebitsch

18th Century

Aryeh Judah Leib of Trebitsch was a scribe who lived in Vienna at the beginning of the eighteenth century and became one of the leading Hebrew scribes of his day. One of the first to be commissioned by wealthy court Jews in Europe to create decorated Hebrew books and other manuscripts, he was active ca. 1712–1739. An estimated nineteen manuscripts are credited to him.
