Friedrich von Amerling
Friedrich von Amerling was a Viennese painter in the court of Emperor Franz Josef and is considered one of the most outstanding Austrian portraitists of the nineteenth century. He was the most popular portrait painter of his day and painted many aristocrats and other members of the upper middle class. He was a court painter between 1835 and 1880. In 1878, he was accorded the status of nobility and thereafter was known as Friedrich Ritter von Amerling.
