Creator Bio

A. Litai

1878–1952

Born Aaron Rabinowitz in the Gomel region (today in Belarus), A. Litai had a traditional religious education before studying at a Russian gymnasium. Embracing Hebraism and Zionism, Litai taught in Jewish schools in Odessa, was active in Hebrew literary societies, cofounded the Odessa Hebrew publishing house Juventus, and (under the names A. Litai and A. Ben-Moshe) wrote about Hebrew literature, Zionism, and Jewish culture in journals such as Voskhod, Ha-Shiloaḥ, Ha-Am, and Reshumot. After immigrating to Palestine in 1921, Litai worked as a writer and editor for Ha’aretz.
