Healing with Objects and Whispering

Hebrew

These are the permitted things [to do]: [ . . . ] One may pass [healing items] over the bowels on the Sabbath. R. Simeon ben Gamaliel used to say: With an item that is permitted to be handled on the Sabbath, one may “whisper” [i.e., recite an incantation] over an eye, over a snake, and over a scorpion, but one may not “whisper” with an item [related to demons]. R. Yosi used to say: Even during the week, one may not “whisper” with an item [related to demons].
