It uses the term "Falasha," which is now deemed derogatory, to refer to Ethiopian Jews, who as of 1990 self-identify as "Beta Israel." Toward the end of the 1990s, a storm erupted among members of the Ethiopian community. They discovered that suspicions were being raised about the health of their blood, and that donations were, without their knowledge, being poured away because of fears of contagious viruses.
