León Rozitchner was born in Chivilcoy, Buenos Aires province, in 1924. His grandfather, a rabbi, immigrated to Argentina in the previous century. Rozitchner made his mark on Argentine society and culture as a leftist philosopher, journalist, and university professor. In 1960, he obtained a doctorate in humanities from the Sorbonne; his philosophy was largely influenced by Merleau-Ponty, Marx, and Freud. He edited the left-wing periodical Contorno and was forced into exile in Caracas in 1976. He was one of the first in Latin America to establish links between Marxism and psychoanalysis.
