Yuri Slezkine

b. 1956

Born in the Soviet Union, Yuri Slezkine was trained as an interpreter at Moscow State University. He came to the United States in 1983, earned a doctorate at the University of Texas, Austin, and is now a professor of Russian history and director of the Institute of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
