Yoysef Kerler

1918–2003

Yiddish poet and refusenik Yoysef Kerler was born in Ukraine and fought for the Soviet army in World War II. An actor and writer, he was arrested in 1950 for his encouragement of Yiddish culture. Kerler moved to Israel in 1971, where he received the Itzik Manger Prize.
