Yossi Abolafia

b. 1944

Yossi Abolafia (also known as Yosi Abulaffya) is a writer, illustrator, and cartoonist who was born in Tiberias. A has worked as a director, scriptwriter, and animator for Israel TV, Canadian TV, the Canadian Film Service, and other venues. He is head of the animation department at the Bezalel Academy of Art, where he is a senior lecturer. Abolafia created a satirical comic strip for the daily newspaper, Maariv. He has written several books for children and illustrated over 100 books in Israel and the US. He has twice been the recipient of the Andersen Citation for Illustration and the Ben-Zvi Prize and was awarded the Nahum Gutman Prize for Illustration in 1993.
