YIVO

Established in 1925

Founded in Wilno, Poland, the Yidisher Visenshaftlicher Institut (YIVO) gathered and analyzed a wide range of materials relating to East European Jewry. Some of its material was destroyed by the Nazis, some went to its branch in New York before World War II, and some was recovered in the 1990s.
