Yehuda Haim Aaron HaCohen Perahia

1886–1970

Ladino poet Yehuda Haim Aaron HaCohen Perahia was a descendant of Spanish Jews who had settled in Italy and were notable in the religious community. Perahia worked for a tobacco company in Xanthi, Greece, and was hidden by a Greek Orthodox family in Athens during World War II. During the war years he wrote several novels, a family history, a book of poetry, and information about the Jews of Salonika.
