Vincent Brauner (Yitskhok Broyner)

1887–1944

The son of a wealthy industrialist from Lódz, Vincent Brauner studied painting in Warsaw, Kraków, and Berlin. Taking the name Vincent in tribute to Van Gogh, he was a member of the avant-garde artistic and literary circle Yung-yidish in Lódz (1918–1921). He continued to paint in the Lódz ghetto after the German conquest of Poland.
