Tony Kushner

b. 1956

Born in New York City and brought up in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Tony Kushner is a playwright, screenwriter, author, and gay activist. His seven-hour play Angels in America was adapted for television by the HBO network. Kushner has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize, several Tony Awards, two Lambda Literary Awards, an Emmy Award, and membership in the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
