Shimon Sandbank
b. 1933
Born in Tel Aviv, Shimon Sandbank is a literary critic, novelist, and translator. He earned his doctorate from the Hebrew University in 1965, and now is a professor emeritus of comparative literature at the Hebrew University. Sandbank received the Israel Prize for Literary Translation in 1996, and has written numerous studies of writers, among them Rilke, Kafka, and Celan.
