Ruth Klüger

1931–2020

Vienna-born Ruth Klüger survived several concentration camps during World War II. She left Germany in 1947 for the United States, where she was a professor at the University of California at Irvine. Klüger was an authority on German literature; among her honors were the 1999 Thomas Mann Prize and the 2005 Goethe Medal.
