Rosa Gabbay

Rosa Gabbay was the daughter of Ezekiel Gabbay, founder of the Ladino newpaper El jurnal israelit and the personal banker of the Sultan Mahmud II. Rosa Gabbay’s Ladino-language etiquette book reflects on courtesy and critiques the traditional role of Jewish girls, stressing the importance of modern education, and showing Western influences.
