Robert Schindel
b. 1944
Austrian-born Robert Schindel is a novelist, poet, short story writer, and essayist. He was active in the 1968 movement and was the co-founder of the student movement Kommune Wien. After studying philosophy and education at the University of Vienna, he edited a literary journal and later worked as a magazine correspondent. His novel Gebürtig was adapted into a film. Schindel received the Elias Canetti Grant in 1991 and the Erich Fried Prize in 1993.
