Rebecca ha-Levi

18th Century

Rebecca, the widow of R. Ḥayim ha-Levi, lived in Jerusalem in the eighteenth century. Following her husband’s death, she received the funds from her marriage contract: a sum of eight hundred grush. In 1730, she donated three hundred grush to the Yefa‘er Anavim bi-Yeshu‘ah yeshiva in Jerusalem, so that its students could study the Mishnah in memory of her late husband. She also donated an identical sum to another unnamed yeshiva in Jerusalem.
