Nathalie Sarraute

1900–1999

Russian-born Nathalie Sarraute, who lived most of her life in France, was a writer of novels, plays, and essays on literary theory. She was a major theorist for the French “New Novel” movement, and received the Formentor Prize, the Prix Internationale de Litterature, the Grand Prix National, and the Prix Cavour.
