Moses Samuel Konfino

It is believed that Moses Samuel Konfino’s play Pyesa di Ya‘akov Avinu kun sus izus (The Song of Our Forefather Jacob and His Sons) is the oldest extant Judeo-Spanish play. It was published in Bucharest, and it is thought by Judezmo studies scholar David M. Bunis that the work was adapted from an earlier Hebrew version. The play was clearly written for a children’s performance; Konfino included an introduction stating that he aimed to illustrate the value of familial harmony.
