Moacyr Scliar

1937–2011
Born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Moacyr Scliar was one of the most acclaimed and widely translated Brazilian authors. The author of short story collections and novels, he has been credited with giving expression to the Jewish Brazilian experience. He also worked as a public health physician. Scliar received numerous awards, including the Academia de Letras, the Brasilia Prize, the Guimarães Rosa Prize, and the Brazil Pen Club Award.
