Milton Goldsmith

1861–1957

Born in Philadelphia, Milton Goldsmith studied music, language, and literature at the University of Zurich, returning to Philadelphia to join his father and brother as a clothing merchant. After publishing his first novel, Rabbi and Priest, Goldsmith moved to New York and started an art publishing company. In addition to novels, he also wrote children’s books, plays, librettos, and using the pseudonym Astra Cielo, a pair of books on divination.
