Menahem Salih Daniel

1846–1940

Menahem Salih Daniel was a prominent landowner, merchant, and philanthropist in Baghdad and a spokesman for the Jewish community in the early years of Iraqi independence. He was a delegate for Baghdad in the first Ottoman parliament in Istanbul in 1877 and a senator in the Iraqi legislature from 1925 to 1932. He was a supporter of both Jewish and Muslim charities and cofounder of the Red Crescent society in Iraq.
