Larry Kramer
1935–2020
Larry Kramer was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and grew up in Maryland. He is a playwright, screenwriter, novelist, essayist, and social activist whose subjects concern situations faced by gay men, particularly in the early days of the AIDS epidemic. The founder of the Gay Men’s Health Crisis and ACT UP organizations, Kramer was named Man of the Year by Aid for AIDS and received the Arts and Communication Award from the Human Rights Campaign Fund, the Dramatists Guild Marton Award, the City Lights Award, and nominations for Academy and Olivier Awards.
