Juan Gelman

1930–2014

Juan Gelman was born in Buenos Aires. He was a poet, journalist, political activist, and the founder of the publishing house Nueva Expresión. After the coup in Argentina in 1976, Gelman was forced into exile for twelve years. He received the highest Spanish literary honor, the 2007 Cervantes Prize. He later lived in Mexico.
