The Jewish Communities of the Land of Moravia

From the sixteenth to the eighteenth century, the Jewish communities of Moravia were organized under a central organization. The extant regulations issued by this organization span the years 1650 to 1748. The leaders of the various communities met from time to time in “councils” to issue regulations concerning many aspects of public life, including schooling of children and maintenance of yeshivas, appointments of communal leaders, collections of taxes, and settlements of personal disputes.
