Jerome Weidman

1913–1998

The son of immigrants, the prolific writer Jerome Weidman was born, raised, and educated in New York City. His work portrays the rough underside of business and often features ambitious young immigrants on the make, who, while clawing their way to success, lose their humanity. In addition to being a successful novelist and short-story writer, Weidman also made his mark on Broadway and in Hollywood. He wrote the book for the award-winning musical Fiorello! (1959) and for the musical adaptation (1962) of his early novel I Can Get It for You Wholesale, as well as the screenplay for The Eddie Cantor Story (1963).
