Jacob S. Baars

1886–1956

The Dutch architect Jacob S. Baars designed several Jewish buildings in Amsterdam. A follower of the father of modernist Dutch architecture Hendrik Berlage, he built the synagogue in Linnaeusstraat, Amsterdam (demolished in 1962), in the style of the Amsterdam school, the Dutch version of international expressionism.
