Jacob Horowitz
Jacob ben Abraham Horowitz was the son of Abraham Horowitz and the brother of Isaiah oHrowitz, author of Shene luḥot ha-brit (Two Tablets of the Covenant). Jacob is best known for publishing, in Prague in 1615, his father’s ethical will Yesh noḥalin (Some Inherit) along with extensive additions of his own, which he framed as glosses to the original work. In them, he cites teachings of Judah Loew (the Maharal of Prague), incorporating intellectual and spiritual traditions different from his father’s. Later, Jacob’s nephew, Isaiah’s son Shabbetai Sheftel Horowitz, would publish yet another version of Yesh noḥalin, including both Jacob’s and his own emendations. Together with Isaiah, Jacob also brought Abraham’s Emek berakhah (Valley of Blessing) to press.
