Israel Halperin
1910–1971
Historian Israel Halperin was born in Bialystok. In 1934, he immigrated to Palestine, where he taught at the Hebrew University. His research focused on the history of Eastern European Jewry, and he published a number of important works in that field. He helped to create the Israel Historical Society and was editor of the journals Zion and Shivat Zion. The Book of Valor is a three-volume anthology that he completed in 1950.
