Isaac Vega

ca. 1570–1628

Isaac ben Moses Vega (Beja) was a preacher in Salonika and later taught at a yeshiva in Nikopolis (Bulgaria), where he became the chief rabbi. Bayit ne’eman (Faithful House; 1621) is a collection of homilies (and a few eulogies) on a wide variety of topics: Torah, prayer, fasts, gratitude, repentance, marriage, and good deeds. Keter Torah (Crown of Torah), the first of the three sections of Bayit ne’eman, is a homily on the rebuilding of the synagogue in Nikopolis and was later (1628) republished as a separate volume.
