Ilan Karmi
1958–1993
Born in Holon, Israel, Ilan Karmi grew up in Israel and attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin, where he wrote a master’s thesis on the status of non-Muslims in the Ottoman Empire. At the time of his untimely death, he was living in Thessaloniki, where he studied the history and architecture of Balkan Jews.
