Ignaz Reiser

1863–1940

The architect Ignaz Reiser was born in Slovakia, the son of a wholesale wine merchant, and grew up in Pressburg (today, Bratislava) and Vienna, where he practiced until his death. He built residential and commercial buildings and synagogues and communal buildings for the Viennese community. His earliest buildings were in the neo-Baroque style, whereas his later ones, such as the ceremonial hall at the New Jewish Cemetery in Vienna, were more modern, showing the influence of expressionism.
