Harry L. Golden
1902–1981
Born in Galicia, Harry L. Golden grew up in New York, but he became known throughout the American South for his humor and firm civil rights convictions. Golden moved to North Carolina to work for the Charlotte Observer. In 1941, he founded the Carolina Israelite, which had a national circulation until its closure in 1968. In addition to his work in journalism, which included reporting on the Eichmann trial, Golden published several popular books, including reminiscences about his childhood and explanations of his political beliefs.
