Esther Singer Kreitman
1891–1954
Esther Singer Kreitman was born in Bilgoraj, Poland, the sister of the highly acclaimed Yiddish writers Israel Joshua and Isaac Bashevis Singer. Growing up in an abusive home, she never received a formal education and entered into an unhappy marriage with a diamond cutter from Antwerp in 1912. In 1926 she left her marriage and ultimately settled in London, where she published novels in Yiddish, worked as a translator, and managed the journal Loshn un lebn.
