Erika Stone

b. 1924

American photographer Erika Stone is a successful photojournalist whose images have appeared in Time magazine and international publications such as Der Spiegel. Stone was born in Germany but immigrated to the United States during World War II. Like many Jewish photographers in New York City, Stone joined the socially conscious Photo League. After the league disbanded, she went on to study at the New School of Social Research in New York. Although she photographed some celebrities, Stone’s greatest interest was in the people of her city.
