David Grossman

b. 1954

A novelist, playwright, essayist, and peace activist, David Grossman was born in Jerusalem. His first novel, ḥiyuch hagedi (The Smile of the Lamb) was published in 1983. Many of his works have been translated, dramatized, and filmed. Grossman has received awards for his works on social and political themes; these include the Zeev Award, the Sapir Prize, the Prime Minister’s Prize for Literature, and the Emet Prize for Arts, Science and Culture, honoring his lifetime achievements.
