David Albahari

b. 1948

David Albahari was born in Péc, Yugoslavia (now Serbia), and lives in Calgary, Alberta. He is a postmodern novelist, essayist, translator, and short story writer. In 1991 he was chair of the committee that helped evacuate the Jewish population from Sarajevo. Albahari is the recipient of the Ivo Andric Award, the Stanislav Vinaver Award, the Branko Copic Award, and the NIN Award for best novel published in Yugoslavia.
