Clara Sereni

1946–2018

Italian writer, columnist, translator, and political activist, Clara Sereni was born in Rome to a politician father and a mother who died when Sereni was a child. She became a writer in the context of second-wave feminism in Italy. Her writing incorporates autobiographical and utopian elements, as well as communism and Zionism. In 1991 she moved to Perugia where she was elected deputy mayor for social policies from 1995 to 1997. She won the prestigious Grinzane Cavour Prize for Literature in 2003.
