Betty Miller

The English novelist Betty Miller was born in Cork but moved to London in 1922, after spending two years with her mother’s family in Sweden. Farewell Leicester Square was her only work to focus on Jewish life in England. Completed in 1935, it was rejected by Victor Gollancz, a radical assimilationist, who had already published two of her novels, largely, it seems, because the novel was “too Jewish” for him. It was not published until 1941. She was married to Emanuel Miller, a distinguished psychiatrist.
