Beinish Michalevich
1876–1928
Beinish Michalevich (Yoysef Izbitski) was a leading figure of the Bund, and a member of the Tanners’ Union. He met his wife, the Bundist leader Dina Blond, in Vilna during World War I, and they settled in Warsaw. Michalevich, along with Henryk Erlich, Viktor Alter, and Vladimir Medem, worked to integrate the Bund into the Polish parliament. Michalevich was the first chairman of TSYSHO (the Central Yiddish School Organization), established in Warsaw in 1921.
